Ordination

My friend Jenny (see sidebar - Jenny and Doug are getting married!) and John Paul and I drove up to Lafayette on Saturday to attend the ordination at the Cathedral. Madeleine stayed home - there's no way I'd bring the little tasmanian devil! There was one priest ordained and 4 deacons. The man ordained a priest I've been friends with since high school, and I've known the deacons for several years as well. It was so beautiful. We got balcony seats and they were the best seats in the house! Next year we decided we're going back to the balcony for sure.

So, there was an older, grandmotherly type lady in the balcony who offered to hold John Paul while I took some pictures and videos. She walked around up there with him for a while, and I could tell it just made her day. She told me that she thought he had a vocation to the priesthood. I told her I'd be thrilled! She said she prays for vocations every day and she was going to put him at the top of the list :)

This reminded me of a few years ago at another ordination - Fr. W, who prayed over us before we conceived John Paul. I had the honor of playing guitar at his first mass. (I use the word "Playing" loosely, as I was crying so hard during communion I could barely see the music!) I was so touched during his mass. Afterwards we were able to ask him to pray for any intention we wanted. I asked that he pray that we have a son who is called to be a priest. *

This is Fr. Shocklee kneeling in front of the bishop.

John Paul hanging out with Jenny in the balcony.

*It's no secret that I'd love a son who is a priest. It doesn't have to be John Paul, don't worry I'm not going to push him that way! It doesn't matter what vocation my children have as long as they answer the call to holiness.

I got some great videos too. They sang my very favorite Litany of the Saints. I'm going to try to post a few this week.

I love ordinations too! What a treat to know that John Paul's vocation will be prayed for daily. No matter what vocation he is called to, these prayers will help prepare his heart to answer that call. I heard yesterday that we should never ask our children "What do you want to be when you grow up?" we should be asking them "Have you talked with God about what it is he has created you to do with your life?" What a challenge. Enjoy all of your days with your little ones, formation begins at home and I am sure you are going to prepare their hearts and faith well.

It seems like you went to school with a lot of priest. ;)

If you keep threatening that you are going to wear me out, I won't come. I promise you! I won't come! Remember I am driving not flying. I will stay my butt at home! :)

One of my prayers for John Paul is that he would know his vocation and live it out faithfully.

I have little doubt that he is called to greatness. After all, his name IS John Paul!! And he was prayed into existence by a very holy priest.

Don't worry, Sew, there is lots of iced coffee around their house. Surely you can hang with the Packs for a few days with a little caffeinated help:)

We were at the ordination mass at St. Peter and Paul this weekend! It was beautiful too. We know one of the newly ordained priest from undergrad at Purdue.

I wish we could of sat in the balcony, but we would of had to sing in the choir! I told Mike they needed a big screen tv so we could see them better! We didn't bring Zach either, but there were ton of kids there. I was surprised.

Sorry I missed you in the balcony. You're right, the ordination was beautiful and the balcony view was great. I just missed some parts trying to pay attention to the music. I think i'll bring my older kids next year. Blessings on your day!
