Baby Shower

I had my first baby shower yesterday - mostly family and some friends of my mom's who I call my "spiritual moms." My Godmother and Godfather even came from Michigan - although my Godfather shopped for tools while the shower was going on! It was so fun and we are so blessed! Now I can't wait to make her bed, hang up all her new little clothes, and put everything in her room. Mom got us a beautiful rocking chair - she said that she had so many wonderful memories of rocking us, she wanted Ken and I to have those too! I can't wait to sit in her room and nurse her and rock her and just hold her. And I can't believe we only have about 5 weeks left until we get to do those things!

We had to wait so long to get pregnant - first 2 years of NFP while Ken was in law school, then two full years of trying. It got so frustrating at times. Now it seems like God had the perfect plan for us all along - imagine that! I wouldn't trade this little girl for anything, and I'm happy that I had the opportunity to offer up all of that suffering for her and all my future children.

Baptism

This past Saturday, we attended the baptism class at OLMC. We had to fill out a form that asked questions such as "What does baptism mean to you?" and "Why do you want to baptize your child?" and "List specific ways you will raise your child in the Catholic faith." They certainly didn't give us enough room!

I can't wait for her baptism. It is on Easter Sunday, and one of my good friends, Deacon Dan, will baptize her. He will become a priest for the diocese of Lafayette in June. She will wear a beautiful white gown, all our friends and family will be there, and she will become an adopted daughter of God. It makes me so excited just thinking about it. God has given us this precious gift, and we are so blessed. I can't wait for her to receive her first sacrament, and promise God that we will raise her to love and serve Him. It will be a day of Thanksgiving.

Interesting day

Yesterday, Ken and I went up to Logansport for the Sarah Bauer gig (he was playing, I was not - can't hold the guitar anymore!) We pulled up to the door behind this truck to unload Ken's stuff. Immediately after we parked, the truck backed right into our van! The guy who got out spoke only Spanish, said he didn't have insurance, and tried to just give us $100 to cover it. We knew the damage was more than that, so we called Fr. Mike out to help us. He told Fr. Mike that he did have insurance, but didn't want to make a claim. (He didn't know I speak Spanish!) Well, he ended up calling the police to make a report, and we exchanged information. Other than standing outside in the snow for an hour, it wasn't so bad and I'm not worried about it. After the concert, we drove home for a minute before going to mom's house for the game. When we turned onto our street, there were car tire tracks swerving all over the street and through people's yards. When we got to our yard, the person had swerved way into our front yard, hit our mailbox, knocked it forward (and all the mail into the snow), and drove away.

Of course, none of this mattered later that night.....

THE COLTS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!

Last Bradley Class

We had our last class on Tuesday night. It was kind of sad (for me, not for Ken!) Hopefully we will be prepared. We watched a video on breastfeeding, and they made it look pretty complicated. Surely it can't be that hard. We are really going to have to practice our relaxation. I can't believe it's January 18 already!
I really hope that I can do a natural birth. We went to the doctor today and Baby is measuring just a little small. They said they would wait until my next appointment in two weeks, and if she isn't growing, they will do another ultrasound to make sure everything is ok. But her heartbeat was great, they said my weight gain and blood pressure were great too. And she is moving around all the time so the doctor said there is nothing to worry about. Anyone else experienced this?

Mom and I got the cradle set up yesterday. It's been used by all my cousins, me and my brother, and all everyone's kids. Dad fixed it up and it looks beautiful!

Great Concert

If anyone is in the Logansport area this weekend, there will be a great concert at All Saints Parish at 2:00 on Sunday. Sarah Bauer, an amazing Catholic singer and recording artist, (not to mention her incredible band) will be playing there. Come hear some great Catholic music!

Going public

I've been debating since I started this blog if I should share it with all my friends and family. At first it was just a place to record thoughts about this pregnancy, but now I have several people who I don't know reading it! (And I've really enjoyed meeting some online friends!) Maybe I should share it with people, but then I think - who really wants to read about this? I'll have to decide. Any suggestions/thoughts?

Strong baby

I think she's going to play soccer, kickboxing, or something! Especially when people across the room can see her move through 2 layers of clothing, or when the cat is laying on me and the baby kicks her off!! Of course, let's hope she gets her dad's coordination and athleticism and not her mom's.....

And by the way, Happy Birthday to Mom yesterday!! She will be the greatest Grandma in the world.

Great Weekend

The Colts beat the Chiefs, and are on to the next round of the playoffs! Mom and Dad had us and Ken's parents over for a Colts party, which was great. Also we took down our Christmas decorations, put a bunch of stuff away, cleaned up around here, hung out at our weekly date spots - Barnes and Nobles and Borders, and celebrated the Epiphany at 8:00 am mass this morning. Ken always tries to talk me into going to a later mass, but I just love that one!

Also, we went to Joe's Butcher Shop today, and we were talking about his kids because their family was sitting in front of us at mass. Ken told Joe that we were expecting our first child, and he didn't believe I was 33 weeks and said I looked great - a man after my own heart! Kind of like the Pizza Man, but in a different way!

Unfortunately, we did not get a digital camera this weekend like we were planning. They were not on sale, but we will keep looking and I'll get some pictures up soon.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend too!

More about the baby's room

It's so peaceful in there. That is the feeling I get when I go in. It's not even close to being done yet, but it's already better than I ever imagined. It's even very well organized so far with the stuff we already have. Hopefully I can keep it that way when she is born!

So now that we are working on the room, it seems a lot more real to me that we are actually going to have a baby. I know that probably sounds weird - I mean, someone's kicking me all the time, my belly is getting huge, and I'm constantly going to the doctor. Also I can hardly get my shoes on or roll out of bed anymore, but for some reason, the room makes it seem really real.

I'm getting even more excited -and can't wait to see how she looks in her new room!

My mom was taking down her Christmas decorations today, and she commented that it never seems too long between Christmases. But next Christmas, little Snack will be about 9 months old, getting into everything, playing with the wrapping paper, and listening to Christmas stories. (Mom said she bought out the Christmas books for her at the Barnes and Nobles 50% off sale!) It's pretty amazing how much our lives will change between now and then.

Happy New Year!

Sorry I've been slacking with my posts! We had a busy couple of weeks. We had a great Christmas and New Year, and Ken and I had our last vacation before little Snack arrives (or our last vacation for about 20 years as my friend Jenny said!) We got the baby's room painted and the crib and changing table/dresser set up in there, as well as all of her clothes and toys put away. It looks so beautiful - better than I ever imagined. I will post some pictures when we get a camera (this weekend, I hope!)

I had a doctor's appointment today and everything looks great. Only 8 weeks to go!!
