Daddy's back to work

Luckily it was just a 3 day work week to break me in!  So far we are doing pretty well but next week we are starting school again so who knows how that will go!  I'm shocked and thrilled with how well Leo is doing with his new baby sister.  Every time he passes her he pets her gently and says, "Nice."  He even got hurt today and ran to my lap where I was holding her, and I picked him up and he did the same thing even through his tears.  What a sweet boy.  I haven't gotten to hold and cuddle him and put him to sleep as much as before though, and I miss that.

So although Sarah is nursing great and gaining weight, she has a little issue.  She has had a lot of nasal congestion for 2 weeks now (half her life!) and also has started coughing really hard about two minutes after eating.  It doesn't last long but it's kind of scary when it happens.  It is the worst at night when she is laying flat.  I tried to elevate her head on my shoulder last night after she ate, and we have tried a humidifier in our room and suctioning her nose a few times a night, but it doesn't seem to help.  Does that sound like reflux?  She spits up a little but not too much.  I hate to get her tested and treated if that's not it.

I can't believe she will be a month old in 2 days.  Didn't she just get here??

Are they usually congested after birth? IDK I think I might recall B hacking up a long then it went away....?

Beth-
The speech pathologist in me things this sounds reflux-y/swallowing (nothing serious!)
But I'd check in with Chasing b/c I think she does peds feeding/swallowing stuff as a speech pathologist. Or... you could ask Leo's SLP???

She looks like she's doing great though!

It sounded a bit like reflux to me too but that is just because that is what we dealt with early on with Joseph. His reflux showed up around 3 weeks and that is when our pediatrician said that it tends to reveal itself. Joseph also had trouble getting enough air in (like he was gasping for air at times) and his little heart would race. Once he did not have to fight so much, he did better. It does make you worry, though, so I will be praying for your beautiful family!

Sounds like Simeon, after each surgery he coughs for about 3 weeks, sounds sick, but it's stuff in his lungs from the anethesia...

Hope it gets better for sweet little Sarah!

leo, what a great big brother you are!

I know what you mean about holding, or lack-there-of, your other baby's...that part is pretty hard for me.

Qurstion- what's your favorite ring sling?

Laura my favorite ring sling is a wrap conversion ring sling from paxbaby.com. They're made from a woven wrap. Expensive but great newborn thru toddler!

Hi Beth,
I am no expert, but my little ones slept in a seat until they were old enough to start rolling over. I used a bouncy seat or they slept in the car seat. It helped with the spitting up and the congestion.
Please know I am praying for you and your beautiful family! Four is so much fun!!

I hope it is all going better, it does sound like reflux to me as well.

Yes, sounds like reflux... elevated mattress (stick rolled towels/pillows under mattress on one side) helps some... John's was bad enough that he needed daily Prevacid, which got it under control.
