So yesterday Madeleine and I had plans to drive up to her Godparents' lake house, about an hour and a half away, and spend some time with them, go on her first boat ride, go swimming, etc. My mom was going to watch John Paul all day for me. I was SOOOOO excited! Madeleine was so excited too - to have some one on one time with me.
Unfortunately.... it didn't happen. I've been having some pretty bad stomach issues for a few weeks now, and I feel like I just can't get them under control. I have a bunch of stuff out on the counter when I need it - Tums, Gas-X, Zantac, Immodium. Half the time I don't know which one to even take - everything hurts. So I woke up at 5 in the morning yesterday having contractions! Obvious, regular contractions that started around every 10-15 minutes apart and got closer to 5 minutes apart. Pretty scary for being 20 weeks pregnant. I got up, walked around, came downstairs and checked my email, drank some water, took some tums, etc. I threw up, then tried to take some Immodium cause I needed that too (Sorry, TMI!) Bud got up, then Ken got up and I tried to get in the shower, hoping I'd be ok and they'd go away. Ken left at 7:30 and I texted him about 5 minutes later to come home, something was not right. I also texted my mom and asked her to come now instead of 8. She came right away, and Ken came home. We went to the emergency room, and they sent me up to Labor and Delivery. They said I was dehydrated and gave me an IV. I decided to wait 30 minutes to see if the fluids would stop the contractions instead of taking the medicine to stop them, since I'm still nursing Bud. They started to decrease in frequency, and they gave me another bag of fluids after that. We spent the entire morning there, but by the time we left at 12:30 I wasn't having any more contractions. The baby's heartbeat sounded good too.
I left with strict instructions to rest, drink a ton of fluids, eat the BRATTY diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast, Tea, and Yogurt), and to make sure I didn't get overheated or get a sunburn. So I guess it's probably a good thing we didn't go to the lake on the hottest day of the summer - I think it got to 102 degrees here yesterday. But still, I was really disappointed that we missed it.
This is the second time I've been dehydrated like this in what, 3 weeks? I have GOT to get this under control and start drinking more. I just want my body to do what it's supposed to - and feel like I'm back to normal. BUT, this gave me opportunities to offer up some prayer intentions, and I know that, God willing, I'll get a sweet baby boy out of all this. It's definitely worth all the trouble and I'd do it again. Several times!
Thanks mom and Ken for helping me out, and thanks for all the prayers!
Oh and I just saw that I missed a Doctrinal Quiz Show! I knew that answer too!

OK, it doesn't count if you say well after the fact that you knew the answer :P
What a scary thing you went through! I was thinking, I would have to eat a BAT diet if it were me, since I'm sensitive to wheat, rice, and yogurt!
Hope you're feeling better.
SO GLAD you and the baby are okay!!!!!!
Ooh, scary! I'm so glad that you both are okay!
The exact same thing happen to me during this pregnancy. We called the midwife, she knew exactly what was wrong, drank tons a water in 30 minutes, called her back with all the contractions completely gone.
It was an easy fix to a scary situation. Glad it was that and you and baby boy are fine!
I am glad that you and Baby are ok. That had to be so scary. I told your mom that when something like this happens I would like to know. I hate finding out about after the fact and feeling worthless. I can at least be praying for you.
Woman, you better take care of yourself!
I don't know if you are like me, but I only drink at meals which leaves a giant chunk of the day with no fluids. And I HATE drinking water. HATE!
I try to do Gatorade (they even have a low sugar version) or Crystal Light.
It would really work out better if I could just have an IV bag on all the time.
It's so hot here too. Take it easy. I know you've been struggling with stomach/viral issues on top of regular pregnancy ills. Praying it gets under control.
OK Beth, that's scary!
Praise God you and the baby are both OK. I know that I never get around to drinking enough fluid during the day, either.
Praying for your quick recovery!
Oh no, I'm glad everything is okay now. I know all too well about early contractions, scary!
Drink, drink, drink, keep drinking. This miserable weather is awful. So glad you were able to get hydrated again quickly!
Ugh! I can't believe you don't drink all day! I actually feel crampy when I don't drink and it scares the hell out of me...I'm up to about a gallon a day now....Like M said, that's nicoles water bottle! ;) Use it! ;) Go get the good stuff! ;)
He better be a priest of my kids wife. :)
I mean husband. ;) hahaha
Ugh, I also meant to say you have been contending with things that have been out of your power to control too... ;) Didn't want to sound harsh! ;) hahaha
How scary Beth!!!!!
I'm so glad that all is well! Also, have you tried adding flavour to your water so it's more interesting. I started buying Tetley Infusions which is like concentrated liquid tea that you add to a bottle of water. It totally made boring water interesting!
Oh my Beth, this is scary. Saying some prayers for you!!!
Sure, go get yourself dehydrated and go into early labor and the ER just to have an excuse as to why you didn't play the Doctrinal Quiz Show. Uh-huh.
DRINK, LADY!!!!!!
