Guess what I got today in the mail when I came home?! Charles' vest! I love it; it's beautiful. And it encourages me to believe that I too could actually finish a real project...
I can't believe I haven't stopped by to say CONGRATULATIONS yet! Your little Madeleine is beautiful, and so are you. Congratulations again, and many, many blessings throughout your babymoon! :)
What a strange coincidence...I just spent a long while visiting your blog a couple of nights ago! Your baby is beautiful. And it sounds as though you are doing everything right as far as cosleeping! Two of the biggest issues with cosleeping are too many pillows and/or blankets, but from what you said in your comment on my blog, it sounds as though you are addressing those concerns perfectly! I might also suggest that you try wearing somewhat snug fitting clothing to bed (so it's not in baby's way), and, though I'm sure I don't even need to point this out, it's never a good idea to cosleep if you are under the influence of any type of medication or alcohol. (If I've taken anything like cold medication, which tends to make me drowsy, baby sleeps in the crib).
I have slept with all three of our babies. My husband and I had never really heard of the concept before we had children, but after nearly two weeks of sleeplessness (both for us and our fussy firstborn), we realized that by bringing him into our bed with us we all slept better! I still don't personally know many other families who practice cosleeping (aside from one of my cousins, who lives in a different state), but where I live (New Mexico), it is actually a common cultural practice among the large Hispanic population I care for as a perinatal nurse.
The best advice I've ever received was: Trust your instincts! Many of the decisions my husband and I have made as parents have been counter to what we have been "taught" by society, but we can honestly say that we feel we are making the best choices for our children!
(Oh, and just one more thing: I would highly recommend reading Nighttime Parenting by Dr. William Sears. This book has proved to be invaluable to me on many occasions!)
Congratulations! Motherhood is such an awesome experience, one that will forever change you in so many wonderful ways. Enjoy every minute of it with your precious little sweetheart, and always remember that no matter what anyone else may have you believe, you are her mother and you will always know what is best for her!
P.S. This is a great photo of you and your "little Irish Baby!" :)
