6 days left

Nothing happening over here. Mom says that is ok because if she was born today, I'd have to return my two March birthstone necklaces that I got for Christmas and exchange them for February ones. So she can just wait until after midnight. But anytime after that is fine!

Chris and Sarah came over last night. They are letting us borrow their video camera and they got to see the baby's room. They thought it was really cute!

Ken made me spicy Indian food for dinner last night. It didn't work.

We are still waiting over here! Now I'm thinking she's not going to come early at all. I'm still feeling pretty good. I'll have to see what the doctor says on Friday.

7 days to go

And not a peep from this kid! (Well, except the constant kicking in the ribs!)
But I do feel better than I've felt in several weeks. I finished her last blanket last night and started on a little hat for my friend who is having a baby girl. I did all this during Prison Break and 24. I don't know what it is, but my attention span for TV shows is practically down to zero. (So don't get mad at me, Ken!)

We did also buy some bra pads yesterday (we got Medela from Target - my friend had recommended them), and also a different friend gave me several nursing bras - which weren't big enough around - so we went and bought some bra extenders. (Sorry if this is too much information for some people - Nick!) ;-) Ken's used to it now.

We also bought some buttons for a few sweaters I've made for her - and I love knitting but I hate sewing buttons on, so maybe Mom will do that for me? Right Mom?

Father Larry Richards is coming to our parish on Saturday night. He's an excellent speaker so I kind of hope I make it for that (of course if she comes in the next few days, maybe she can come too!) He's also doing the Parish Mission for the church down the street all next week, so hopefully we can make it at least one night. I've always wanted to go to confession to him, because he asks questions and you just have to say yes or no! I know I just went to confession, but if I get the chance to go to him I will probably go again!

Anyway, thanks for all the advice. Don't worry, it is all appreciated! I'm very happy to get advice from experienced moms, so keep it coming!

8 days

So I think the nesting instinct really kicked in for both of us yesterday! We were on a roll - got all the laundry done, vaccuumed the whole house (even the stairs!), picked up everything, hung up all her new clothes, and Ken even scrubbed the inside of the oven. And it wasn't even my idea!
I also set up the bouncy seat and little rocking chair/seat, and Ken set up the Diaper champ. Her room is all ready! Also, I washed the carseat and put the headrest in and set it to the smallest setting. Now I just need to install the base in the car, but I'm pretty much an expert at those things by now so that won't take long.
When Ava wakes up, mom and I are going to get batteries for those little seats, and some other unmentionable things (that apparently people need for breastfeeding....) That should be an adventure!
Also tonight we are borrowing a video camera from our friends (for AFTER the birth, not during!)
I also got all my thank you notes from the shower done while Ava was sleeping... and sent most of them but I need a few more stamps (thanks Mom!)
I'm feeling pretty good - maybe this is the "burst of energy" they talk about in the last week of pregnancy. Or maybe it's the girl scout cookies that finally came in today.... ;-)

The Countdown Begins

We are officially in single digits - 9 days to go until the due date! I do know that only 5% of babies are born on their actual due dates, but I am still counting (and still hoping she'll come sooner than then anyway!) March 6 seemed like SO far away not too long ago, now it is just days away and I can't believe it.

The shower was great yesterday. I got to see lots of CRHP sisters I haven't seen in awhile, and we got the very last thing we needed - the Diaper Champ! We also got lots of cute clothes, blankets, a picture frame, diapers, and some other great stuff. Also my friend who is a physical therapist is going to give me a massage after Baby Girl gets here - yeah!

We asked our friends Jeff and Donna to be our baby's Godparents today after mass. They were excited and honored - and I know they will be great!

And here's a very important tip I learned this weekend. If you're 9 months pregnant and want to go to confession, and you get there and two very holy nuns are in front of you in line and there's nowhere to sit, just leave and come back later ;-)

Fish Fry

First fish fry of the season! Love it! Mom and Dad and a bunch of friends are going too.
The next one is March 9 and I hope Baby Girl is here for that one ;-)

My best friend Lori is coming tomorrow for my last shower! I'm so excited to see her. She lives in southern Indiana and it's been quite a while since we've seen each other. My Christ Renews His Parish team is having a shower for me tomorrow, and I haven't seen most of them for a long time either. We're also going to confession and adoration tomorrow - and maybe mass - or maybe we'll wait until Sunday for that. Then Ken and I are spending the day together on Sunday. This might be our last weekend with just the two of us!

Ok we are off to The Fry!

38 1/2 weeks

I went to the doctor again today - new guy that I hadn't met before, but he was very nice. I'm still about the same - 2 cm, maybe a little more effaced, and her head is way down. I hope she comes soon, because I'm getting a little too cranky, emotional, and uncomfortable. Oh well! Just some more things to offer up ;-) (I think I'm giving Ken some things to offer up too!)

I'm going to go lie down on the couch until Ava wakes up!

Another DJ Story from years past

This is one of my favorites. It was the year 2000, and the theme of the weekend was "Go Fish." (Evangelization theme.) I had brought a group of high school kids from St. Francis in Muncie where I was going to school at Ball State.
First of all - a little background. I had been dating a guy for about 8 months or so, and he thought I was "the one." By New Years Eve (1999) I knew that I wasn't going to marry this guy, but his birthday was that day and we had already planned to go down to my friend's house in Evansville, go to a nice dinner on the river and go to mass at Midnight. So I decided that I didn't want to go with this guy by myself, so I begged my friend Mary to come with me. She said she would, but she had already promised her friend Ken that she would do something with him. (Yes, this is "my" Ken and yes, this does have something to do with Destination Jesus.)

Anyway, the 4 of us went down there together, I enjoyed meeting Ken and hanging out with Mary. Ken and I exchanged phone numbers because he was deciding to become Christian and I told him he could email me or call me with any questions. We had had a great time talking about the Catholic Church that weekend. So I ended up meeting with him at OLMC for mass the next day, then I went back to school. We kept in touch over email and phone conversations, and he decided to become Catholic. Then he asked me to be his sponsor - and my mom said that was the best "pick-up line" she'd ever heard! So we got to be good friends over this time and he was going through RCIA.

So the other guy and I were still dating. I was becoming more and more convicted every day that he wasn't the one for me, but was having a hard time breaking up with him. So at DJ in the year 2000, Ken and this guy were both there helping out. (Mom met Ken at this weekend, and embarassed him in front of the other guy when she said "Oh, so THIS is the guy I've been hearing so much about!")

Anyway, I was really praying on Saturday night, "God, what do you want me to do? Do you want me to break up with him?" Then I just felt good about it - a sense of peace - that I was supposed to break up with him and everything would be ok. So I planned on doing it the next day after DJ was over. When the kids were leaving, we had "Messages in a bottle," which were 700 different bible verses that mom and I had found and typed over Christmas break. The kids were supposed to pick one and it would mean something to them. After all the kids were gone, I picked up an extra one. It was from Sirach, and although I don't remember the exact verse, it was something like "Behold, you are pleased with my sincerity of heart, and in my inmost being you teach me wisdom."
So I was pretty convinced that God was telling me to break up with this guy.
Then, mom and I were walking down the hall, and I started having doubts. I asked her, "Mom, what if all these doubts about our relationship are not coming from God? What if they are coming from myself or even the devil?" Just then, I bent over to pick up a piece of trash off the floor. It was a bible verse that someone had dropped, and it was from Matthew. It said "Take courage, it is I. Do not be afraid."
I was amazed.

I did break up with the guy that day. It was hard, but I am so glad I did. Because that night, I was talking to Ken on the phone about it, and he said, "So, are you going to go out with me now?" Honestly I hadn't even considered it, but we started dating, he became Catholic a few months later, we got engaged about a year and a half later (after I had finished school), then we got married in June of 2002, and the rest is history - he's the best husband I could ever ask for! God is good!!

DJ

Destination Jesus (DJ) #12 was great this weekend. Despite the blizzard last week and more snow on Friday and Saturday, all 744 teenagers showed up (plus tons of adults!) All the seminarians from the Diocese of Lafayette were there, including the deacons who will become priests in June (except the one who is studying in Rome!) Deacon Dan, who is baptizing Baby Pack on Easter, did the vocations talk on Sunday morning and did a fantastic job.
I got to help mom in the sacristy, but didn't wear myself out too much. I also got to see lots of people I haven't seen for a while.

The kids were exceptionally well behaved and reverent this year, especially during the Eucharistic procession. The Eucharist is exposed in the monstrance in the middle of the gym all weekend, and on Saturday night, they tell the story of the woman in the bible who touched Jesus' robes and was healed. Then, Fr. Richard carries the monstrance around to every single person in the room and we all get to touch the robes. We were in the very last row, and Baby was relatively quiet during the whole procession (I think the music was putting her to sleep!) But when Jesus got close, she started jumping around like crazy - just like John the baptist - she was happy to be close to Jesus!

The best part of the weekend for me was mass on Sunday with the bishop. ALL the seminarians and Knights of Our Lady (very reverent and trained altar boys), were up there, the music was so beautiful, and the bishop gave a great homily. They played my very favorite song, Blessed be Your Name.

Here are the lyrics:

Blessed Be Your Name

Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow Blessed be Your name
And blessed be Your name when I’m found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness Blessed be your name

Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise
And when the darkness closes in Lord Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name when the sun’s shining down on me
When the world’s “all as it should be” Blessed be Your name
And blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering Blessed be Your name

You give and take away You give and take away
My heart will choose to say Lord, blessed be Your name

Last year at the DJ mass on Sunday, I had been diagnosed with endometriosis, had my first surgery, and had just had my second shot of Lupron a few days before. We had been trying to get pregnant for over a year, and still didn't know if it would happen. When they sang this song during that mass, I really prayed the lyrics. I decided that I would praise God whatever happened in my life, even "on the road marked with suffering." After that I felt a great sense of peace.

Then, in June, on our 4th anniversary, I took my very first positive pregnancy test. I knew I wanted to tell Ken that night and I was so thankful that I got to give him this gift on our anniversary! I had Ava and I was driving to Babies R Us to get him the bib that said "Daddy is my Hero." It was still just so surreal, and I was the only one who knew. When I turned on the radio, Blessed be Your Name came on! It was amazing.

So, they played that song on Sunday, exactly a year later, and I just cried all the way through it. I'm so thankful to God for this blessing.

Baby update

I went to the doctor again today and had my first "exam." That was not fun at all. But she said I am more than 75% effaced and 2 cm dilated, and the baby's head is way down! Yeah! She said it's a good chance the baby could come sooner than the due date, which would be fine with me! She said I better pack my bag. Any suggestions on what to pack? I have the baby's bag ready, but not mine. I suppose I should get on that....
Also she's considered full term (38 weeks) so it's safe for her to come anytime. Of course, my two favorite doctors in the practice are going skiing all week, so maybe if she could at least wait until next Saturday.... but I guess it doesn't really matter who delivers her. Ken will be doing all the coaching anyway.
Mom said she's going to run me around all weekend at Destination Jesus so she'll come on Monday. I told her I can't really run anymore - it's more of a waddle.
Hm... I guess I better get some diapers and wipes! But also the doctor said there's a chance I could still carry her to the due date, so I better not get too excited.
Oh and MaryEllen gave us a camera today - I had a bad dream that I went into labor and we didn't have a camera so we couldn't take any pictures! Thank God for good friends ;-)

Flowers and Candy are nice

But Ken got me the BEST Valentine's present ever!

Here it is

I love it and I can't wait to try it out! (Well, I tried it with the cat, but she was not too thrilled! ;-)

And we can finally get out of the driveway! We hired a great guy with a truck and a plow, since the 4 foot drift against our garage was not going anywhere. Best $25 I ever spent. Also they finally plowed our street after 3 days. So this baby can come anytime now. The last few days it would have been a big problem getting to the hospital!

We are gearing up for Destination Jesus, which starts tomorrow. I still have to finish a few costumes, and we are setting up tonight. Ken will be playing guitar all weekend with the band and I'm helping mom out in the sacristy. I am in charge of getting kids to do all the mass parts, then telling them where and when to go. We're supposed to get more snow and sub zero temperatures. Should be an interesting weekend!

Poor Ken

He was coming home from work and he got stuck at the end of our street! It's blowing and drifting, of course our street hasn't been plowed (and there's probably 12 inches of snow on it!) I tried to go help him by pushing his car with the van, but I can't get out of the garage!
So he had to walk all the way home - about a half mile - through a foot of snow and more of it blowing right in his face. Then he left his blinkers on, thinking we could get a tow truck to come tow him home, but no one will do it because the street is not plowed and they don't want to take the chance of one of their drivers getting stuck. So now he is going to walk back down there to turn off the blinkers and just leave it until someone can get to it. Poor guy!
It's still coming down hard too. I'm thinking the schools will be closed again tomorrow, and I'm not sure if we will even be able to get out of the driveway!

True Love

Ken and I will have been married for 5 years in June. 5 years! It seemed like it went so fast. I was 22 when we got married, and he was 30. In that time, we lived in a small apartment for 2 years, Ken went through 3 years of law school, graduated, and passed the bar, we've both had several different jobs, we bought a house, and in a few weeks we'll have our daughter.
We've had a great time together - hundreds of dates at Barnes and Nobles, dinners, movies, hung out with friends, we've been in the Frassati Society and been in charge of "Late Nite with Fr. Richard" together, but in the past year, I've fallen more and more in love with him every day.
We went through two years of trying to conceive and being disappointed, but he was always optimistic and open to life, no matter how it would come to us. He took care of me after my two surgeries for endometriosis and my 3 months of drug induced menopause. He rejoiced with me when we became pregnant, and I got to tell him on our 4th anniversary. He came to all my ultrasounds and most of my doctors appointments. He ran to the store when I was having cravings, and ate a LOT of Mexican food in my first trimester with me when that was the only thing that sounded good. He's scooped the kitty litter the whole time without complaining. He took care of me through morning sickness. He would feel my belly when I started feeling the baby kick. He prays for her. He spent 3 days of one of his only vacations painting the nursery and setting up the furniture. He attended every single Bradley class with me, and I know he'll be a great coach in a few weeks! He's taken care of me a lot in the past few weeks when I've been too tired and sore to cook and clean. He wakes up with me when I can't sleep and we practice our relaxation.
In a few weeks we'll welcome our daughter into our family. I know he'll be the best daddy that a girl could ask for. I can't wait to see him hold her. I'm sure my love for him will grow more and more every day.

Happy Valentines Day Ken! I love you!

Snow!

They're saying we could get 8 - 16 inches of snow tonight, and no one should plan on going to work or school tomorrow! *fingers crossed!*

My busy day

Yesterday was a CRAZY day. I had to get up at 6:15 to take Ken to the airport (very hard for an extra large pregnant woman who doesn't get enough sleep as it is!). Then I had a Destination Jesus meeting at LePeeps (delicious), then I went straight over to the Frassati meeting and heard Dr. Ray. Like Anne said, I was pretty disappointed that he did not speak about parenting, but instead his conversion story. Judging from all the moms, dads, and babies hanging out in the back of the room, (not to mention the pregnant women) many people were probably expecting a parenting talk. However, he was still great and I'm still glad I went. Then I had two hours to make the Tshirt costumes for the skit for Destination Jesus, then I had my last pre-baby haircut, then I went out to dinner with a friend, and came home and crashed on the couch with the cat!
Now it's Sunday morning and I'm going to pick up Ken soon. I'm really glad he got to take the earlier, direct flight and he'll be home at 9:30am instead of later this afternoon, and I'm glad we get to go to Mass together.
Sorry this is kind of random, I'm VERY low on sleep these days. Even Tylenol PM is not helping much. Oh well - maybe this is preparing me for getting up every 2 hours when the baby gets here. I'm certainly already getting used to it!

All good news

I went to the doctor today. I'm immune to Fifth Disease, the baby is measuring perfect, and the doctor said our birth plan was great. Also she said I lost a few pounds - which is normal.
She asked if the baby was moving around, and I told her I thought she was moving a little less than usual this week. So I had to do a non-stress test, which involved hooking me up to a monitor for half an hour, to watch the baby's heartrate and movements. She is doing great, and the doctor even said she's a happy baby in there. They were looking for her heartrate to go up when she moved, which is what it did. They said it was normal for the baby not to move as much in the last month because they just don't have as much room.
Also, they could feel the baby's position now, and her head is down and her little butt is pushed right up against my ribs. ;-)
So everything looks good! Thanks for all the prayers!

Ken and I are going on a date tonight - yeah! Kincaids, and then maybe a movie. My boss gave us a gift card to Kincaids for Christmas - we are very lucky! Besides our usual cheap date of Barnes and Nobles, this could be our last nice dinner date by ourselves for a while!

Why I like the Colts

After the victory, Coach Dungy led the whole team in an Our Father. Reporters say there was not a dry eye in the room.

Best Buy

During my baby shower on Saturday, Dad, my brother and my husband went to Best Buy to get a new TV (unbeknownst to my poor mom!) Dad bought a nice big flat screen for the SuperBowl party. When he got home, he realized that they had given him the wrong TV - they had given him one that was about $2000 more than the one he bought! So on Monday, he went to tell them what happened. My mom said that everyone at Best Buy was flabbergasted that he would come back and tell them. All the managers came over to shake my dad's hand. They asked him what he wanted to do, and Dad told them that he really liked the TV, and asked if they would give him a deal on it. The manager said they would give him a great deal, and took a big percentage off the price. When he went to pay, the cashier couldn't believe that he had come back either and was paying the extra money. She said she wished everyone was as honest as him. It's too bad that most people wouldn't do what he did. Of course I would expect nothing less from Dad - but I'm very proud of him!

Oh boy...

Is it February 6 already?! That means less than one month till this kid is due!

Over the weekend

Ok, the doctor called me today and said they wouldn't have the test results in for a week. So I guess if they are not worried, I am not worried.

On a better note, we had an amazing baby shower again! We are so blessed to have all these great friends. My friend Ashley from Iowa sent me a beautiful quilt that she made - I love it! And Ken got his very own "manly" diaper bag - and he was very happy about that! Also lots of clothes and books, the rest of our bedding for her crib, a beautiful scrapbook that just needs pictures, and lots of other stuff. Ken and I also picked up our new rocking chair and the boys (Ken, my brother and my dad) put it up in her room during the shower. Then mom and I came over afterwards and put everything away, and set up the pack n play downstairs so we'll have a changing area down here too. We are getting ready for her! Also I think pretty much everyone's given up asking about the name. I don't think anyone even mentioned it. ;-) We've held out this long, we might as well wait a few more weeks!

So, while the shower was going on, the boys went to Best Buy and bought a huge flat screen LCD TV. Then we got to watch the Blue Reign. Pretty much a great weekend!

And after mass on Sunday morning, we were talking about how we only have a few more weeks of going to mass by ourselves. (I guess that means the days of getting up at 7:30 and going to 8:00am mass are over!) Also, we said that when I told Ken we were pregnant on our anniversary in June, March 6 seemed so far away. Now it is right around the corner. Our lives will change forever! She's already changing our lives. This weekend, Ken is going to play a Sarah Bauer gig in Atlanta. Normally I would be going and playing as well, but my doctor won't let me anywhere near a plane. So I am staying home by myself. But I get to go to a Frassati Society meeting with Dr. Ray Guarendi as the keynote speaker on Saturday. He is a Catholic parenting expert and I can't wait to hear him. Perfect timing to get his advice.

Then the weekend after that is Destination Jesus. Ken's playing in the band and I'm helping with all the sacristy stuff and the dramatic skit. Then I have another baby shower the next weekend, and then we'll be 1 week from her due date! I can't believe it!
